JAY — A petition calling for the replacement of RSU 73 Superintendent Robert Wall has been placed in several businesses in the Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls area.
The person or people responsible for the petition have not come forward.
Several businesses were contacted, with only one acknowledging that the petition had been there, but was quickly removed by management. That person declined to identify himself, stating that he wanted no part of it.
The petition calls for the school board removing the superintendent and replacing him “with someone with the vision that the three towns have for the future of RSU 73.”
Wall said Monday afternoon that he had heard rumors that such a document was in the area but that he had not seen it.
The petition calls for the board to meet to discuss the following:
* Concern that the superintendent proposed a budget that would greatly increase taxes, particularly for the town of Jay.
* Concern about a lack of trust and confidence by residents and employees in the ability of the superintendent to lead, as well as because of misinformation provided by the superintendent.
* Lack of accessibility to the superintendent.
The petition comes on the eve of a third effort to pass an operating budget for the recently merged district. Voters turned down an $18.8 million budget in June, then rejected another $18.7 million budget in July.
Residents of the three towns will vote again on a figure to be unveiled this week at 6 p.m., Aug. 14 at Spruce Mountain Middle School. That will be a district-wide, town-meeting-styled vote.
On Aug. 21, residents will go to their individual town offices to approve or deny the figure adopted on Aug. 14.
