AUBURN — An early Sunday morning fire that took the life of an Auburn woman was caused by a pot left on a stove burner.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators found a burner, with a pot on it, was left on by Nicole Lagasse, who then apparently went into her bedroom and fell asleep. Lagasse died in the fire.

The fire broke out just after midnight on Sunday morning. Investigators have ruled the fire accidental.

The building had working smoke detectors which helped alert the other tenants to leave the building, according to a news release.
