GREENE — The Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial will present “Capt. Mac — the life of Arctic Explorer Donald Baxter MacMillan” on Friday, Aug. 10.
Narrated by Mary Morton Cowan, the program is accompanied by slide film of Capt. Mac’s journeys to the North Pole in 1905 and other ventures to Greenland, as well as other Arctic trips.
A Maine native, Cowan is a graduate of Bates College and an award-winning author. Some of her books include “Capt. Mac;” “Timberrr,” a history of logging in New England; “Ice country,” a teenager’s adventure to the Arctic; and nearly 70 articles and stories for children.
Cowan has been involved in child development and education for many years. She has taught piano and organ lessons, and assisted in school reading and writing programs. She and her husband, Carl, make their home in Standish.
