DURHAM — Nomination papers for a special municipal election on Nov. 6 to fill a vacancy on the Board of Selectmen will be available at the town clerk’s office beginning Tuesday.

The vacancy is due to the recent resignation of Philip Gilikson, who is completing the first year of a three-year term.

Anyone interested in running for the position may obtain nomination papers from Town Clerk Shannon Plourde during regular office hours. A minimum of 25 signatures and no more than 100 signatures of registered Durham voters are needed. Completed nomination papers must be filed with the town clerk on or before 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in order to be listed on the ballot.

Plourde advises residents to get more than 25 signatures in the event someone signs believing they are registered in the town and it is determined they are not.

New residents or residents who are at least 18 may register to vote throughout the year at the clerk’s office. Proof of identity and a current confirmation of address form or a piece of mail is needed if a driver’s license or state ID does not show a person’s current address.

For more information on the election or questions regarding voter registration, residents should contact Plourde during regular office hours at 353-2561, ext. 11.
