DIXFIELD — The streets and several Main Street buildings will be the scenes of many events and activities this coming weekend.
It’s the annual Dixfield Main Street Outdoor Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday along both sides of Main Street. Starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dixfield Historical Society house will be an antiques road show and a flower show.
Society treasurer Donna Towle said Smithfield appraiser Tim Gould will appraise antiques from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appraisals will cost $5 for one item and $10 for three.
The society house and barn will be open to see the thousands of exhibits and items on display. There is no admission, but donations are appreciated. Funds will go toward replacing the building’s furnace.
This year’s featured exhibits are locally created handiwork, such as penny rugs and quilts, and a display of artwork, writings and other items produced by local son, Harry Blaisdell. The society building will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Blaisdell was a 1965 graduate of Dixfield High School who worked for many years in the Boston Public Library. He died in February.
The society’s annual Al Larsen River Valley Festival of Flowers also begins Saturday when entries may dropped off from 3 to 5 p.m. Categories are wild flowers, cut garden flowers, house plants, miniature bouquets, single flower, and displays created by children 12 years old and younger. Ribbons will be awarded for the top three displays in each category as well as a People’s Choice Award for Best in Show.
The entries will be on display from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, when the open house continues along with a food sale and gift shop offerings.
Bill DeVries, member of the Outdoor Market Committee, said more than 50 vendors have signed up for the Sunday, townwide event. Among them are craftspeople, nonprofits, school groups, businesses, and food vendors.
The market is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
Music will be performed at the gazebo from noon to 2 p.m. by the all-female band Hotflash and from 2 to 4 p.m. by local singer Sammie Angel.
A one-mile race starts at 8:30 a.m. on Third Street, followed by a 5K race at 9 a.m. Free fingerprinting for children is available at Ludden Memorial Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At 5 p.m., an auction headed by Michael Kent of South Paris-based, Broken Gavel Auction, is scheduled at the American Legion Hall. Preview will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., and an auction of box lots only will take place at 4 p.m. before the major auction. Food also will be available at the event.
