MEXICO — A Rumford bicyclist who was seriously injured in a crash this week was in stable condition Wednesday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, police Lt. Roy Hodsdon said Wednesday.

Hodsdon said Damion Dobson’s condition was upgraded from critical to stable Wednesday.

Dobson, 19, of Pine Street in Rumford, was flown to the hospital after the Monday night collision with a pickup truck.

Dobson and another bicyclist were riding west on Route 2 near Walmart when Dobson swerved into the westbound travel lane, the officer said. Roy McLean, 56, of Rumford slowed his 2011 Chevrolet truck to avoid hitting Dobson but the bicycle hit the front bumper. Dobson struck his head on the pavement, he said.

Hodsdon said Dobson suffered head, shoulder and leg injuries. He believes the bicycle may have malfunctioned, causing it to crash into the truck. The brake cable was broken, but he was not sure whether that happened before or after the crash, he said.
