MEXICO — Selectmen are calling for nominations to honor four outstanding employees or volunteers at the 16th annual Night of Appreciation.

This year’s event, which is filled with awards, a dinner, and lots of prizes, is set for 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Mexico Recreation Center.

Certificates or plaques will be awarded to full-time employee of the year, part-time employee of the year, volunteer of the year, and citizen of the year.

All nominations must be written and submitted to the town office, or mailed to Mexico Board of Selectmen, P.O. Box 251, Mexico, ME 04257, by 4 p.m., Sept. 25. Each envelope must be marked with the nomination category. The nomination should include why the nominee deserves the award.

The board will go into executive session at that night’s regular selectmen’s meeting to choose the winner in each category, said selectmen secretary Sheryl Briggs, via email.

The Employee of the Year and Part-time Employee of the Year awards will be presented to the people who provide outstanding service in an efficient, friendly and prompt manner.

The Volunteer of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards will go to people who reside in the town. The volunteer award will honor someone who has been deeply involved in the community and who has provided extensive volunteerism. The citizen award will go to someone who has accomplished something in the community that has touched the lives of many people or who has created a positive affect within the town.

Past volunteer and citizen of the year honorees have also had their names posted in a mini-park located along River Road.
