GREENE — A National Guard 195th band ceremony and a 9 a.m. parade will kick off Greene Village Day on Main Street on Saturday, Sept. 8. Boy Scout Troop 113 will put on a pancake breakfast for early birds at Greene Baptist Church.
Greene Village Day offers a variety of food, refreshments, competitions and a small-town approach to having fun and socializing.
A full day of enjoyment can be had at no cost, while an all-day $8 bracelet can be purchased for unlimited use of many activities. There will be pony rides, a climbing wall with a 16-foot water slide, a pirate-themed bounce house, mini golf, speed baseball, a National Guard video game truck and more. Family discounts are available: $8 for the first bracelet, $7 for the second and $5 each for any others.
The Greene Historical Society will share “Greene’s Pictures of the Past” and there will be karaoke for kids, a live DJ, volleyball and horseshoe set-ups for random games, and kids’ soccer games.
For competitive types there will be women’s skillet throwing, men’s nail driving, arm wrestling and baby competitions. Contest sign-up sheets are available at the Greene Town Office.
There will also be tractor and wagon rides, and a Toot ‘n’ Chug Rail lines demonstration. Also giving demonstrations will be Pelletier School of Karate, the Androscoggin Canine Unit, a wood carver who uses a chainsaw, the National Guard, HUM-V and others.
