WEST FARMINGTON — Marian Starling Hall Mitchell passed away peacefully at her home in West Farmington on Aug. 23, with her family by her side.

She was born in Princeton, N.J., March 4, 1924, the daughter of Harold and Gertrude Bailey Hall. She spent her childhood in Oxford and her teen years attending various schools in New York City. She graduated from Gorham Normal School and taught elementary school in Bridgton, before moving to Farmington with her husband, Alden W. Mitchell. They were married on June 18, 1946, in Gorham.

Marian loved sewing, rug braiding and enjoying her time with her friends as a member of the Neighborhood Group of the Franklin County Extension. For several years, she operated a craft shop called the Little Red Hen with her good friend, Geneva Worthley. She was an active member of the Old South Congregational Church in Farmington, where she taught Sunday School and the American Legend Post 28 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Mitchell and his wife, Doris, of Phillips; her daughter, Marcia Mitchell of Hinsdale, Mass.; grandchildren, Michael, Michelle and John (JP); and great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Alison.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alden in 2010; and her son, John in 1994.
