OXFORD — Billy Childs Jr. and Corey Morgan claimed feature wins in their respective divisions as Time Warner Cable presented the annual Driver Appreciation program Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Childs drove to his third victory of the summer in the 40-lap Late Model tilt, while Morgan picked up another victory in the Strictly Stock class. In a special appearance by the Wicked Good Vintage Racers, Kevin Waterhouse (vintage Late Model) and Woody Forest (Outlaw) earned feature wins in their respective classes.

Fred Clavet, Matt Dufault and Scott Farrington were also feature winners on the next-to-last points race of 2012 for Oxford’s Championship Series divisions.

Childs stole a victory away from Shane Green shortly after the event’s final restart. The veteran from Leeds drove around the outside of Green with just three laps remaining and hung on for the victory. Green settled for second, while T.J. Brackett was a distant third. Point leader Travis Stearns and Chris Coolidge completed the top five.

“This win is dedicated to Kyle Hewins,” Childs said. “Kyle is a good racer, and he’s had a pretty tough go this past week after his injuries. My car was super-fast again tonight, just like it was two weeks ago. It feels great to win again as the season draws to a close.”

Morgan simply outclassed the entire field in his race, going three-wide to take command at lap two and building almost a half-track lead by the finish. Ryan Hewins finished a distant second, while Scott Collins came home third. Former champion Skip Tripp was fourth, while point leader Kurt Hewins was fifth.

In earlier feature action, Clavet went wire-to-wire in the first of two 20-lap battles for the Outlaw division. The driver from Buckfield jumped on the gas right from the green flag and went unchallenged the entire distance. Bryce Mains finished four car lengths back in second, while Gerry Richard was a distant third. Steve Brill and Charlie Hall completed the top five.

“It’s taken quite a while to get this car set up like it is now,” Clavet said. “It’s been a long time since we’ve won, and it sure feels good. It isn’t easy to win here, even in an entry-level division. Everybody runs pretty hard, and you have to have a fast car to pull it off.”

Dufault powered his way around the outside of Scott Veinott on lap three and quickly pulled away from the field to claim top honors. Josh Childs chased Dufault throughout but settled for second, yet it was enough to lock up the Saturday Showdown title for Outlaw competitors. Dan Brown filled out the podium with a solid third-place run, while Guy Childs and Addison Bowie rounded out the top five.

“The car was pretty strong tonight,” Dufault said. “I can’t complain about it much with that kind of speed. I’d like to congratulate Josh on his championship. He had a fantastic season.”

Farrington picked up his first career Mini Stock win after Jimmy Childs’ apparent sixth Mini Stock victory of 2012 and 48th of his career was overturned in the post-race inspection.

Childs powered his way around the outside of Farrington on lap 24 and easily pulled away.

Rob Greenleaf moved up to second. He also unofficially clinched the division championship, his first at OPS. George Fortin and 2011 champion Darrell Moore followed.
