Whitney Lodge open house

CANTON — Whitney Lodge 167 of Canton will hold an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1. Hot dogs and drinks well be served, followed by a semi-public roast beef supper for the lodge’s ladies and widows. Robert Underwood will perform on the bagpipes following the supper.

Labor Day buffet breakfast

HARRISON — A buffet-style breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the United Parish – Congregation Church of Harrison and North Bridgton, across from Crystal Lake Park.

The menu will feature scrambled eggs, homemade pancakes, home-fries, sausage, coffee cake, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee and tea. Donations will be accepted.

WEST PARIS — The regular August meeting of the West Paris Historical Society was held with an outdoor potluck supper and a lengthy business meeting with many items voted on. Dues were raised from $5 to $10 annually. Eighteen were in attendance and it was voted to hold a clearance bag sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 1. Everything will be priced for the final sale of this year.

Robin Green gave a report on the Historical Block Project and had more than 50 new pictures taken in the early 1920s. The group has successfully copied the 1903 in-town maps of West Paris that have been on loan from the South Paris Cape Society.

Historical Soc. yard sale Sept. 1

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will be holding a fund raising yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, rain or shine.

Society members Jody and Judy McMorrow of McMorrow’s Auction Company have donated an interesting cache of household items, kitchenware, Christmas decorations, knickknacks, pictures and frames as well assorted odds and ends. There will be bargains galore since all items will be priced to sell so money can be raised to help to maintain the society’s home, the former First Congregational Church, at 64 Elm St., which was built in 1848.

Stoneham Rescue breakfast

STONEHAM — The Stoneham Rescue annual Labor Day weekend breakfast will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Butters Hill road.

All you can eat meal includes pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. Adults $5, children $2.50.

Rec Center closure planned

BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Town Hall/Rec Center will be closed for annual building maintenance from Tuesday, Sept. 4, through Friday, Oct. 5.

Participants in aerobics, Zumba, tai chi, table tennis, senior fitness – Jumpin Janes, yoga and toddler playgroup should contact the instructor for more information on each program.

Paris Library hours to change

PARIS — Starting Tuesday, Sept. 4, the Paris Public Library will open at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday.

With the change, the library will be open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library’s schedule remains the same year-round.

AARP chapter meets Sept. 10

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, Sept. 10, at the First Congregational Church, E. Main Street. The menu will include ham and potato salad as well as another vegetable and their special dessert. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, Sept. 7.

The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. to be followed by a special program being presented by Greg Cross and another representative from Portland headquarters.
