DIXFIELD — Erin Gats scored two goals as Spruce Mountain slipped away from Dirigo in the second half with a 4-1 victory in a field hockey opener Thursday.
The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead before erupting with three goals in the second half. Johna Couture and Nicole Hamblin each scored a goal for the Phoenix. Couture and Kayla Meserve each had assists.
For Dirigo, Grace Hebert scored on Brittany Lapointe field.
Spruce Mountain goalie Kasey Richards stopped five shots to earn the win.

THORNDIKE — Braley Leadbetter and Brittany Masessa each scored a goal as Mt. View eluded Mt. Blue with a 2-0 victory in a field hockey game Thursday.
Abby Stubbs picked up an assist on Leadbetter’s goal in the first half. Mt. View had 19 corners and goalie Abbie Chartier made one save on one shot.
