BETHEL — Participants in the third annual Western Maine Cash Mob are to meet at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on the Bethel Common.
There they are to learn which local business is being targeted by people asked to bring $20 each to purchase items desired, according to a Friday news release from Michael Newsom of W.J. Wheeler Insurance in South Paris.
“Everyone is invited to join the Western Maine Cash Mob,” Newsom said.
Participants in the family-friendly event are urged to meet at the north end of the Bethel Common across from Chapman Inn.
“A cash mob is a community-oriented event designed to support one local business while giving people the opportunity to see old friends and make new ones,” he said.
“Everyone agrees to bring $20 with them to spend at this local business. This business is kept a surprise until the last possible moment.”
Each “mobster” is also encouraged to join in the “after mob” at a local watering hole, which will also be revealed at the meeting time and place.
Norway Savings Bank will sponsor free refreshments for the mobsters at the after-mob.
“This is our way of saying thank-you for coming and supporting the local economy,” Newsom said.
