GREENWOOD — A local man died at his home last week after being struck in the chest and side of the head with a pulley while cutting down trees, State Trooper Jason Wing said.

Timothy J. Devine, 43, was an avid woodsman, according to his obituary.

“In Greenwood, there were a couple of projects where they were trying to cut down some trees,” Wing said. “They were using ropes to make sure the tree fell in a certain direction. One of the ropes snapped and the pulley came back and struck (Devine) in the upper chest and side of the head,” he said.

According to Wing, Devine’s parents, as well as a friend and the friend’s mother were present. The friend’s mother performed CPR on Devine immediately after the incident, but could not revive him, he said.

The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 29 on Shepard’s Lane, according to a state police.

PACE Ambulance also responded to the home, Wing said.
