LEWISTON — Central Maine Medical Center is contracting out its food services to Maryland-based Sodexo Inc.
All food service employees are being offered new jobs by Sodexo, which will take over patient food services, the hospital cafeteria and the retail cafe on Nov. 1, CMMC spokesman Chuck Gill said in a news release.
Food preparation will remain on-site, the menu will expand and the hospital will work with Sodexo to keep prices reasonable, he said.
“Sodexo has test kitchens (and) menu development expertise on a national scale, and proven experience managing food costs,” Gill said.
Sodexo calls itself a “quality of daily life solutions company” with 413,000 employees in 80 countries, according to its Website. It works with more than 900 hospitals, in addition to colleges, corporations, government agencies and senior-living facilities.
CMMC also has future plans to renovate its cafeteria, to be finished in 2013, to include more space, a more comfortable environment and to accommodate a larger menu, Gill said.
