JAY — A Livermore Falls man was arrested Monday night after police saw him drive a vehicle when he was known to have a suspended license, Jay police Sgt. Troy Young said Tuesday.
Troy Austin, 20, was arrested on charges of felony operating a vehicle after habitual offender revocation and misdemeanor charges of illegal possession of schedule Z drugs, illegal possession of schedule W drugs and violation conditions of release, Young said.
Jay officer Nicholas Gulliver was parked at St. Rose Parish Hall, which overlooks Route 4, to exchange papers with Livermore Falls officer Daniel Chabot. Gulliver saw a man acting suspiciously when he pulled into Franchetti’s Home Town Variety on Route 4. The man continued to act suspiciously when he came out of the store and went next door. He came out of that building with a couple of other people and got into a vehicle with them. He had another person drive the vehicle home that he had driven to the store in, Young said.
Austin was dropped off on Gagnon Street, where Young said he lived. That is also visible from the parish hall parking lot.
Gulliver had recognized Austin and knew that he did not have a license, Young said.
Both Gulliver and Chabot went to the residence where Austin was dropped off. Gulliver was talking to Austin when he tried to shut the door on him, he said.
Austin said he hadn’t been driving, he said. A short struggle ensued before police could handcuff Austin, Young said.
Police found different kinds of prescription medicine on Austin, which did not belong to him, he said.
Austin remained at the Franklin County jail in Farmington on Tuesday afternoon. His bail was set at $1,000 cash, a corrections officer said.
