RUMFORD — Rumford Baptist Church will host two internationally famous people: evangelist, hunter and avid angler Morris Anderson and missionary to abused children and women Lauran Bethell.

The two will speak about their work Sunday, Sept. 23, at the church at 112 Washington St.

At 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Anderson will share some of his experiences along with the Gospel, Pastor Dan Pearson said Wednesday.

“Morris Anderson is an avid big game hunter and fisherman who has hunted or fished on every continent of the world,” Pearson stated by email. “He also is an evangelist affiliated with the Southern Baptist denomination, who has been compared by some to Billy Graham in his ‘humble, straightforward approach to sharing the Gospel.'”

Anderson and his wife of Maryville, Tenn., are traveling from Tennessee to Maine.

At 5 p.m., the church will have a potluck supper followed at 5:30 p.m. by Bethell’s PowerPoint presentation. She is an American Baptist missionary who ministers to women coming out of human trafficking in Europe, Pearson said.

According to Bethell’s website, she has been working for more than two decades on behalf of and caring for women who have been exploited and abused.

As the first director of the New Life Center in Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand in 1987, Bethell pioneered projects in Southeast Asia that specifically addressed the issue of child prostitution and trafficking of women and children.

“She’s really got a great thing going, you know, and it’s kind of a hot topic these days, but it’s a good ministry,” Pearson said. “It’s needed.”

He said the Rumford Baptist Church supports Bethell financially and with prayer.

“She always makes it a priority to come up to Rumford when she’s in the area,” he said.

For more information call 369-9035. There is no cost to attend, but an offering will be taken to help with the speakers’ expenses, Pearson said.
