AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Police have charged a Maine man accused of withholding care and nourishment from his 2-month-old daughter with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

An indictment charging 33-year-old Jedediah Watson was unsealed this week. The charges stem from alleged abuse between Sept. 8 and Nov. 7 of 2011, and child welfare agents intervened.

The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/QjCbMx ) says the indictment was unsealed upon Watson’s arrest on Tuesday.

Watson was arraigned Wednesday in Waterville District Court, and remained Thursday in Kennebec County Jail. Bail was set at $1,000 cash or $10,000 in property. The jail had no paperwork indicating if he’d retained a lawyer.
