The Maine Maritime Academy is among six state maritime academies that will share an additional $2.3 million from a federal government program that recycles obsolete vessels. The U.S. Department of Transportation says the Maine Maritime Academy will get $392,913. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says the majority of goods involved in global trade moved over water. He says the latest funds will help those attending maritime academies get the training they need to keep the economy moving forward. Funding is being made available from the sale of obsolete vessels from the federal Maritime Administration’s National Defense Reserve Fleet.
