FARMINGTON — Two teenagers face charges after police investigated multiple sites of graffiti found Friday morning in downtown Farmington.

Farmington Police issued a summons Friday to two 17-year-old males on a charge of criminal mischief for the spray-painted images on buildings behind Mainestone Jewelry, The Sensi Side and other Broadway businesses amounting to an estimated $750 in damages.

Ron Gelinas reported there was graffiti in the alley behind his store, Mainestone Jewelry, at about 9 a.m. Friday morning. The graffiti was not there when a foot-patrol officer made his rounds through downtown Thursday night at about 10 p.m., said Rachel Heseltine, police department secretary.

Police looked for suspects among a large group of people who to hang out outside The Sensi Side after school.

The police officer on duty that night spotted the name of one suspect who he had been seen downtown at about 3 a.m. Friday morning, she said.

That juvenile and another questioned admitted to the graffiti painting. Police believe there may be more involved but are charging only these two.

Farmington officer Ted Neil is checking to see if previous incidents of graffiti downtown are similar and have any connection with this incident.

Officer Bill Tanner and Sgt. Michael Adcock worked with Neil to investigate and charged the two juveniles, Police Chief Jack Peck said.

Farmington Downtown Association keeps a supply of graffiti remover available for downtown businesses.
