LIVERMORE — Selectpersons voted unanimously Monday to close the Town Office on Friday, Oct. 26, so office workers can get training on a new vote-counting machine, administrative assistant Kurt Schaub said Tuesday.
The electronic vote tabulating equipment provided by the state has been delivered to the Town Office.
In another matter, residents Robert Pulsifer, Dennis Mancine and Larry Carr requested the town draft an ordinance covering the use of consumer fireworks, he said.
“They are not seeking an outright prohibition but believe some reasonable limits can be developed,” Schaub said. “They acknowledge it could be difficult to enforce.”
The men will meet with the Planning Board on Tuesday, Nov. 20, to discuss the matter.
Jay and Livermore Falls also plan to put proposed fireworks ordinances before voters.
Voters have the final say on adopting an ordinance.
According to Schaub, the Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal lists 51 towns that have enacted limits or prohibitions on consumer fireworks.
The ordinance would not affect professional displays, he said.
