AUBURN — Local police are seeking a 15-year-old girl reported missing from her grandmother’s home in early October.

Opal R. Swearingen, who has a history of running away, left home on Oct. 5, police said.

Evidence showed she had returned home a short while later to retrieve personal items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste and clothing, police said. For that reason, police believe she’s in the immediate area.

Swearingen was the subject of a missing persons police investigation earlier this year after she and 30-year-old Charles Fontenot of Lewiston refused to return home for nearly a month, police said. Fontenot is in jail.

Police described Swearingen as white, 140 lbs, 5 feet, 7 inches tall with long brown hair and brown or hazel eyes.

Anyone with information about where Swearingen might be found is urged to contact Auburn Detective Nathan Westleigh at 207-333-6650.
