PARIS — A man suspected of stealing an iPad and a laptop computer from a Paris home Monday has confessed to the crime, according to Paris police Chief David Verrier.

Verrier said a Livermore Falls man was tracked using the Apple iPad tablet computer he stole. The chief said he couldn’t release the man’s name before he’s charged.

The man has confessed by phone and said he will turn himself in when he returns to Maine.

“We had enough evidence,” Verrier said. “He had no choice.”

Verrier said the man, a white male who is at least 35 years old, is currently in Chicago. He said he expects an arrest within a week.

Verrier said the man wasn’t known to the victim, who lived on Mount Mica Road. The home appears to have been chosen at random, Verrier said.

The homeowner heard a knock on the door Monday and came downstairs to find a man in the living room carrying the homeowner’s laptop computer and iPad. The man fled on foot and the homeowner gave chase.

Verrier declined to identify the victim.
