A simmering feud between two County Commissioners exploded into a finger-pointing shouting match Thursday afternoon during a commission meeting. The upshot of the confrontation was the tabling of a proposed funds transfer. Both participants of the debate, Commissioners James Dougherty and Emile Jacques, admitted their relationship has been strained since Jacques balked at Dougherty’s trip to Ithaca, N.Y., in August to buy shotguns for the Sheriff’s Department without a county-sanctioned purchase order. When Jacques took an opportunity to berate the Sheriff’s Department for overspending its uniform account by $3,000, Dougherty, who is chairman of the commission, told him to stick to the subject at hand. “You want to run a show?” Dougherty said to Jacques. “Step aside and let someone else talk,” Jacques said. “I can run it (the meeting) better than you.”
