Voters have until the close of business Thursday to request absentee ballots, according to state law.

Absentee ballots can be returned right up until the polls close on Election Day, Nov. 6, this year. Polls are scheduled to be open until 8 p.m. that day.

Voters in Lewiston should go to City Hall, 27 Pine St. Auburn voters should go to Auburn Hall, 60 Court St. Both offices will stay open until 7 p.m. Thursday.

New residents, with a photo ID and proof of residency, can register to vote at the city clerks’ offices and can pick up absentee ballots for themselves and their relatives.

They can fill out ballots and hand them in there, or take them home and return them later. Both Lewiston and Auburn have used the absentee ballots to create early-voting polling places.
