OGUNQUIT (AP) — The business community in the picturesque Maine coastal town of Ogunquit is offering families hardest hit by superstorm Sandy a break from their troubles.
The town’s Chamber of Commerce has recruited local innkeepers, restaurant owners and other business operators willing to donate their services for a free five-day vacation for 50 families displaced by Sandy.
So far more than a dozen inns, 10 restaurants and close to 20 other businesses, have offered to pitch in.
Chamber President Karen Arel told WCSH-TV the goal is to offer families who have lost their homes a warm bed, a hot meal and “the basics of life” for a few days so they can clear their heads and forget their troubles.
The task now is reaching the families in need.
