PARIS — Selectmen have chosen a new town manager, but cannot release more information until the board signs a contract with the candidate.

In a phone interview, board Chairman Sam Elliot confirmed the board had chosen a candidate for the position.

“We’ve kind of picked the person we like and if we get together on a contract we’ll be all right,” he said. He estimated the contract would be finalized by the next selectmen’s meeting Tuesday, Nov. 13.

In June, the board voted not to renew former Town Manager Phil Tarr’s contract for another year. The board finalized a separation agreement with Tarr in late September, buying out the remainder of his contract for more than $20,000.

The town received 54 applications from across the country for the position.

According to a draft search schedule drawn up by the board in mid-August, the new town manager would start in early January.
