WINDSOR (AP) — Authorities say a three-car crash in Windsor sparked by drugs, speed and “erratic operation” has left one person dead and four others injured, including a teenage girl witnesses say tried to grab the steering wheel of a speeding car from an out-of-control driver.

Police say a car driven by 28-year-old Madison Martin of Augusta rear-ended one vehicle, then struck a second head on at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Martin died at the scene. A 17-year-old girl in his vehicle who tried to wrest control of it, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Three people in the other two vehicles were also hospitalized.

Police say the crash remains under investigation, but witnesses told the Kennebec Journal that Martin was driving at 100 miles per hour or more.
