AUBURN —  Susie French tossed in 20 of her 27 points in the first half as Centeral Maine Community College rolled to a 101-50 victory over the College of St. Joseph’s in a women’s basketball game Friday night.
The Mustangs hung their 2011-12 YSCC championship banner in front of a crowd of friends, family, and recruits and proceeded to blow out the College of St. Joseph’s from the opening tip.
French was also credited with eight rebounds and six assists in 20-minutes. Danielle McCusker got back on track with 26 points, including three 3’s (in 18 minutes), and Maggie Sabine posted another double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds (in 23 minutes).
Maggie Monckey played great off the bench, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Corrie Kinder also came off the bench and scored nine points. CM shot 48 percent from the floor as a team, forced 32 turnovers, and had 27 assists.
USM 73, UMF 45
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.  — Senior Nicole Garland was 5-for-7 from three-point range en route to a game-high 18 points, leading the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 73-45 win over the University of Maine at Farmington in the second game of the 2012 UMass-Dartmouth Tip-Off Classic Friday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Garland was 6-of-9 overall and 5-for-7 from three-point range to lead Southern Maine to a 1-0 start to its 2012-13 campaign.  UMF falls to 0-1.
Senior forward Haley Jordan and junior guard Mariah Callender each had 10 points. Junior guard Erin McNamara added nine points and four assists.  Sophomore forward Rebecca Knight led USM with 10 rebounds and chipped in seven points. Junior forward Holly Oliver was the only player in double figures for the Beavers with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 mark from three-point range. Senior forward Kenni Norton of Strong added nine points and six rebounds.
Men’s basketball
CMCC 73, College of St. Joseph 64
AUBURN — Forty minutes of full-court pressure paid dividends in the second half as Central Maine Community College  pulled away in the last two minutes to defeat the College of St. Joseph, 73-64 in men’s  basketball Kirk Hall on Friday night.
Four mustangs hit for double figures in a balanced scoring attack.  After CM took a narrow 38-35 at the half, the Mustangs struggled in the first few minutes in the second frame. Big 3’s from Auburn’s Brandon Giguere and Oxford Hills graduate Cody Hadley in at the 15 minute mark in the second half  propelled the Mustangs to a six-point lead. 
Samson Olayemi again led the Mustangs with 10 points, 10 assists and hauled down eight boards.  Justin Cocroft led CM with 13 points, Brandon Giguere hit for 11 points, and Jason Hughes and Samson  each chipped in 10 points apiece.
The Mustangs improve their Yankee Conference record to 3-0 and 6-3 overall.  This was their  fourth win in a row.
