1974 – 2012
STRONG — Carlton Clifford Haggan, 38, of Strong, died unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Thursday, Nov. 22, in Avon.
He was born Sept. 18, 1974, in Farmington, the son of Clifford and Nancy (Foss) Haggan.
He was educated in the schools of Strong and graduated from Mt. Abram High School in the Class of 1992. He later attended the University of Maine at Augusta and graduated in 1994 with a degree in criminal justice.
He was employed as a police officer for the Rangeley Police Department, Farmington Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department for several years. He later worked for Carrier Co. as a heavy equipment operator. Most recently, he worked for the Cousineau Lumber Co. as an assistant mill manager.
He was an avid sportsman, loving hunting (especially deer and waterfowl), fishing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. He participated in mud racing on a father-and-son team. He enjoyed baseball and soccer, where he helped coach middle school soccer and the Strong Little League baseball team. He was the range master at the Williams Machine Gun Range in North Anson.
Carlton enjoyed people, especially entertaining family and friends at cookouts. He taught his sons how to hunt, fish, trap and to enjoy life.
He is survived by two sons, Damon Haggan of Strong and Gavin Haggan of Strong; Carlton’s fiancee, Angela Green, and her son, Izaiah, of Strong; his parents, Clifford and Rachel Haggan of Strong; grandparents, Bud and Betty Haggan of Strong; two brothers, Michael Cote of Farmington and Ronald Cote of Farmington; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Haggan.
