RANGELEY — An Auburn man was charged early Sunday after a police officer responding to a complaint saw him punch a window and break it at Sargent’s Pub & Grub on Main Street.
Officer Ron Wood issued Tyler Elwell, 21, a summons on a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Monday.
Wood was responding to a 1 a.m. report that a patron would not leave the bar and when he pulled up he saw a man leaving the building and turn around and punch the window, he said.
After Wood got out of the cruiser Elwell started running. Wood told him to stop and he kept going but the officer caught up to him and placed him under arrest.
Elwell was brought to the Rangeley Police Station to be medically checked out due to the amount of alcohol he had ingested, Leahy said. He was released to a friend.
Elwell is scheduled to appear in Farmington District Court on Feb. 21, 2013.
