RUMFORD — A local physical therapist will lead a free presentation on the importance of balance for senior citizens and friends Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Rumford Point Congregational Church.
Rhonda Morton, a physical therapist for the Rumford Hospital Therapy Services, will discuss how proper balance can help avoid injuries, especially for senior citizens.
The idea for the presentation, which is titled “It’s a Matter of Balance,” came from retired resident Ann Morton, after she attended a similar presentation out of town.
“I went to a presentation geared toward the elderly and I thought to myself, ‘There are people my age in the community who could use this,’” Morton said. “I requested that Rhonda give the presentation, and she accepted my offer.”
The presentation will begin at 3:30 p.m., but the doors will open at 2:45 p.m. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
“The first 20 people who get there will get a free balance assessment by Rhonda,” Ann Morton said.
If the lecture is popular with the community, she may try to plan another on a different topic, she said.
Rhonda Morton will also present “It’s a Matter of Balance” on Jan. 9 at the Rumford Hospital as an event for a The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.
