Coach: Tyler Tracy (third year)
Last year’s record: 11-9, lost in Western Class B quarterfinals
Returning players: Senior — Nick Allen (5-10 guard); Juniors — C.J. Martin (5-10 guard), Josh Gary (6-4 forward), Billy Bickford (6-1 forward), Tyler Michaud (5-9 guard), Shawn Murphy (6-2 forward).
Key losses: Ricky Bryant (6-0 forward), Jacob Littlefield (6-4 forward), Logan Nichols (5-10 guard), Drew Peterson (6-2 forward), Jed Quint (6-1 guard), Nate Rybeck (6-0 forward).
Promising newcomers: Juniors — Coady Lagasse (6-0 guard/forward), Shawn Mitchell (5-9 guard); Sophomores — Allan Young (6-3 forward), Adam Moody (6-1 forward), Zak Lowe (6-1 forward), Adam Mocciola (5-9 guard), Derek Michaud (5-5 guard).
Outlook: Poland graduated four starters after making only the second quarterfinal-round playoff appearance in school history. The Knights will need to replace their point guard and much of their inside presence. The work ethic necessary to accomplish that has been on display early against a preseason slate that included Class A opponents Gorham and Sanford. Poland must establish its new identity early in the regular season and play with a high level of enthusiasm and toughness every night in order to overcome its youth.
Coach’s comment: “As in every year, our conference is top to bottom one of the best in the state. With the exception of a couple teams, everyone is young, but talented.” — Coach Tyler Tracy
