I feel compelled to comment on the Dec. 2 editorial regarding the poaching “criminals.”

I have followed this case through all of the investigations and reporting by the Sun Journal. This father-and-son team and their friends involved make me wonder how a judge could hear the facts presented, then give former Mechanic Falls Chief of Police Everett Leonard such a deal.

Where is the justice for the “kid” involved? Look at his sentence and fine. What is the message being sent there? Is this teen learning a lesson from the court system or from a really good con man, poacher and, last of all, drug dealer?

I would like to commend the hard-working, professional investigators who spent many taxpayer dollars to build the case, only to be given a slap in the face by the judge. As Carol Moore wrote Dec. 5,”Shame on Justice MaryGay Kennedy.” I agree.

I believe this case needs to be reviewed. Can nothing be done to help the teen who is feeling the brunt of the court’s decision?

My last question is, why do taxpayer dollars pay for medical personnel and infirmaries at correction facilities if not for the likes of “sick” Mr. Leonard?
