WATERFORD — Fire crews from three towns battled a house fire on Hunts Corner Road on Wednesday but by the time the smoke cleared, the home was destroyed.
Fire officials said nobody was hurt in the 5 p.m. blaze at 316 Hunts Corner Road. The man who lived alone in the single-story house came home to find his house filled with smoke, according to a Waterford fire official.
Shortly after, the house was up in flames. It was fully engulfed by the time the first crews arrived, the firefighter said, and minutes later, the roof caved in.
The 25-year-old home was considered a total loss. No animals perished in the blaze but most of the contents burned up, officials said.
The name of the man who lived there was not immediately available.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were expected to examine the site Thursday in search of a cause.
