Spruce Mountain 73, Mt. Abram 46
TOPSHAM —  Peter Theriault led a group of four players in double figures as Spruce Mountain raced away to a 73-46 win over Mt. Abram in MVC boy’s basketball action Wednesday.

Theriault led the Phoenix (2-1) with 16 points, while John Mckenna and Deonte Ring each added 13. Scott Hall also contributed with 10 points in a well-balanced attack.

The Roadrunners (0-2) were paced by Ian James with a 15-point effort, while Arthur Ryan chipped in with nine.

Telstar 36, Carrabec 24
NORTH ANSON —  Saving the best for last, Telstar used a 11-2 run in the fourth frame to post a 36-24 win over Carrabec in another early-season MVC boy’s matchup. 

Nick Mills led the Rebels (1-1) with 13 points, while Cameron Pike chipped in with 11.

The winless Cobras (0-3) were led by Brog Dunphy with 10 points, the only player to reach double figures.

Dirigo 64, Madison 47
MADISON —  Dirigo jumped out front with a 11-2 first-quarter run and raced away to record a 64-47 victory over Madison in another MVC tilt Wednesday evening.

Rob Babb led the Cougars (2-0) with a game-high 18 points, while TF Frost chipped in with eight. Dirigo built a 30-18 advantage in the first half and was never seriously challenged.

The Bulldogs (0-2) were paced by Mark Linkletter and Dustin West with 10 points apiece. Madison’s early-season woes continued Wednesday, as Derek Leblanc and Chase Malloy both left the contest early with injuries.

Pine Tree 53, Buckfield 49

FREEPORT —   Pine Tree Academy raced out to a 20-point halftime lead then held off a late charge from Buckfield for a 53-49 victory.

Josh Wilday led all scorers with 25 points while Jean-Pierre Tashamala chipped in with 17 for Pine Tree. Tyler Goyette led Buckfield (1-2) with 23 points while Jared Eastman added 16 points.

Girls’ basketball

Mt. Ararat 41, Oxford Hills 39 OT

TOPSHAM —   Caitlin LaFountain scored a game-high 22 points and Mt. Ararat rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Oxford Hills in overtime, 41-39, in KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Abbie Eastman led Oxford Hills (1-1) with 20 point. Mallory Nelson added 13 points for Mt. Ararat (2-0).

Boothbay 76, Winthrop 18
BOOTHBAY —  Boothbay jumped out to a 14-point advantage in the first quarter and sped away to notch a 76-18 rout over Winthrop in early-season girl’s basketball action Wednesday.

Abby Mclellan led the Seahawks with 19 points, while Alexandra Clarke chipped in with 17.

The Ramblers were paced by Shauna Carlson with a solid 12-point performance.

Girl’s Hockey

Lewiston 4, Greely 2
FALMOUTH —  Erica Lemieux registered a hat trick Wednesday as Lewiston skated to a 4-2 win over Greely in girl’s hockey action.

After Meg Finlay gave Greely a 1-0 lead in the first frame, Lemieux put the Blue Devils back into contention with her first tally. Mary Morrison put Greely back in control with an unassisted goal late in the second period.

Corrine Laberge also tallied for Lewiston to complete the scoring. Brianna Lajoie made 27 saves for Lewiston, while Maura Perry turned aside 16 shots for Greely.
