SALEM — After jumping out to an 11-point lead in the first frame, Spruce Mountain set the cruise control and ambled to an easy 51-21 win over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ basketball action Thursday.
Kaylee Newcomb led the Phoenix (3-0) with 12 points, while Samantha Richards chipped in with 10.
Miranda Smith led the Roadrunners (1-2) with a solid 11-point performance.
Madison 60, Dirigo 30
MADISON — With a 12-point advantage following the first quarter, Madison needed little effort to pull off a convincing 60-30 victory over Dirigo in an early-season MVC matchup Thursday.
Sam Bruce led the Bulldogs (3-0) with 17 points, while Bronte Elias chipped in with 12. Emily McKenney also contributed with eight, while Erika Parker added seven in a balanced attack.
The Cougars (1-1) were paced by Lauren Henderson and Sabrina Daud with eight points apiece.
Monmouth 59, Hall-Dale 55
MONMOUTH — Monmouth outshot Hall-Dale by six points in the second half to secure a narrow 59-55 victory over Hall-Dale in another MVC girls’ basketball matchup Thursday.
Kylie Kemp led the Mustangs (2-0) with 24 points, while Melissa Brassard chipped in with 12. Monmouth’s strong 20-12 run in the first frame helped set the tone in this one.
Hall-Dale was paced by Allison Crockett with 15 points, while Nicole Pelletier tallied 14 and Natasha Brown added 12.
Carrabec 55, Telstar 28
NORTH ANSON — Carrabec jumped all over their opponent from the opening tip-off Thursday, racing away to a 55-28 rout over Telstar in more MVC girl’s hoops action.
Macey Welch led the Cobras (1-2) with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Michaele Willette chipped in with 10. Meagan Cole also contributed with eight points in an effective three-player assault.
The winless Rebels (0-3) were led by Tori Ryerson with nine points.
