GREENWOOD – Mt. Abram Ski Resort will benefit from this week’s snowstorm when it opens this Thursday, Dec. 20.

General Manager Kevin Rosenberg said the storm was a huge help for the ski resort, especially with the lackluster amount of snow Maine had received up until this week.

“The storm gave us about nine inches,” Rosenberg said. “We’ve got good snow from the top to the bottom of the peak.”  Rosenberg added that Tuesday’s storm is providing “big flakes of snow,” and they’re hoping for “another eight inches” from Tuesday and Wednesday’s storms.

Rosenberg said that on opening day, the expert terrain trail and the intermediate terrain trail will be open, and they’re hoping to have more trails open by the weekend.

Despite the arrival of the snow, Rosenberg chuckled and said that Mt. Abram was prepared for the worst.

“Yeah, we were worried for a bit about the lack of snow,” Rosenberg said. “It seems Mother Nature is always playing tricks on us. All we can do now is fight off the warm and hope for good conditions.”

Mt. Abram also did some renovations over the summer, according to Rosenberg.

“We’ve made some improvements on our pump house,” he said. “It helps us make snow more efficiently. We also got two new PistenBully groomers to help us maintain the trails.”

Rosenberg also pointed out Mt. Abram’s unique deals, including Bring a Friend Day on Thursday.

“’Bring a Friend Day’ allows skiers to get two tickets for the price of one,” Rosenberg explained. “It’s the best deal in Maine ski country, hands down.”

Among the other deals Rosenberg mentioned are the $15 opening day lift tickets and tubing on Saturdays from 4 to 9 p.m.  According to Mt. Abram’s press release, the fee is $10 and kids ages 10 and under are encouraged to attend.
