FARMINGTON — Farmington Fire and Rescue was called to the site of the former Granary Restaurant at 147 Pleasant St. early Wednesday morning when a sprinkler pipe broke.
An alarm alerted the department to the break about 5:30 a.m., fire Chief Terry Bell said. Firefighters quickly shut off the sprinkler, and the sprinkler company was called to repair it.
Some damage occurred in the lower portion of the building where the restaurant was previously located in the multistory building, he said.
Tenants in apartments on the top floor were alerted by an alarm and had to wait outside for the department to clear the scene, he said. Their apartments were not damaged, and no one was injured.
The building was retained by Camden National Bank during an auction held earlier this month and remains for sale.
Except for apartments and a storefront tenant, the building has remained empty since the spring of 2011.
