PORTLAND (AP) — There’s a coffee crisis on the Portland peninsula: A boil-water order that’s in effect because of a water main break means there’s no coffee.
The water main break Wednesday on Somerset Street, near Whole Foods, flooded the road with water that reached a depth that topped headlights of parked cars. Two elementary schools had to close for the day.
The Portland Water District said it found no immediate sign of contamination in a dozen water samples taken after Wednesday’s incident. But officials said the samples were still being analyzed for the presence of bacteria and the test results will not be known until mid-morning Thursday at the earliest.
About 4,000 homes and businesses, including two hospitals, are affected by the order.
