LIVERMORE — Selectpersons voted Monday to ask Jay logger John Korhonen to reimburse the town $40,690 for cutting in excess of 10 acres of timber in the town’s Memorial Forest, town administrator Kurt Schaub said Wednesday.

The town did not request the wood to be harvested.

The logger had bought land in the area and he cut the wood over the town line, Schaub said previously. Schaub sent letters to Korhonen in May and September.

The $40,690 includes $36,615 for the mill value of the trees, $2,800 for a survey and $1,275 for timber expenses, Schaub said.

The town hired forester Mark Brown of Vassalboro to do a report on the trees taken in the harvest. He reported 1,250 trees were cut on town land.

A letter was drafted on Wednesday to be sent to Korhonen, Schaub said.

He has until 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, to submit payment. If it is not submitted by then, the information will be turned over to the town’s attorney and the Maine Forest Service, Schaub said.
