FREEMAN TOWNSHIP — A garage fire destroyed a generator and Dodge truck Wednesday morning at 791 Foster Hill Road.
Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to a ranch-style home about 20 feet away, although flames melted vinyl siding, homeowner Richard Lavoie said. He did not know what caused the fire.
Lavoie was at his mother’s house when the fire broke out and heard the dispatch call for a structure fire around 10 a.m.
“That’s my house,” he said of his reaction.
While watching firefighters, Lavoie said the loss of the generator was what he cared about most. The skeleton of a 1993 Dodge Dakota Sport truck stood beside the charred generator.
All was insured, he said.
Firefighters from Salem, Phillips, Kingfield and Carrabassett Valley provided mutual aid to the Strong Fire Department.
Freeman Township is located east of Strong.
