Four local linemen are among a record 31 nominees announced Friday for the Frank Gaziano Memorial Lineman Awards.

Zak Kendall of Mt. Blue, Devin McMahan of Leavitt, Alex Sterling of Edward Little and Dexter Turner of Oxford Hills are among those vying for the award, given annually to the top senior offensive and defensive linemen in the state.

McMahan and Sterling are two of 18 nominees for the Offensive Lineman Award. Kendall and Turner are two of 13 nominees for the Defensive Lineman Award.

The winners will be announced at a banquet brunch on Sunday, Jan. 27 at the Augusta Civic Center. Each winner is presented a trophy and a scholarship, which this year has been increased to $5,000. Each of the four runners-up receives a $1,000 scholarship.

Recipients of the award are selected based on strong leadership on the field, in the classroom and in the community. They “epitomize the character, leadership, and perseverance of Frank J. Gaziano,” according to the Gaziano Awards website.

Gaziano played high school, college and professional football and went on to become a successful businessman, founding National Distributors, which established the awards in 2010 and funds the scholarships.

Also nominated were offensive linemen: Stephen Paul and Peter Kelley of Belfast, Ian Robinson of Biddeford, Andy Martel of Bonny Eagle, James Osgood of Bucksport, James Peabody-Harrington of Cheverus, Logan Lafayette of Hampden Academy, Caleb Champagne of Lawrence, Joshua Andrews of Massabesic, Mitchell Sibley of Mattanawcook, Adam Gray of Mt. Dester Island, Richard Moulton of Mt. View, Benjamin Castellano of Traip, Bobby Begin of Thornton, and Josh Tardiff of Westbrook.

Defensive linemen: Gregory Duff of Bangor, James Hewes and Kyle Snowden of Cape Elizabeth, Louis LaFache of Foxcroft, Kurt Massey of John Bapst, Eriq Stewart of Lawrence, Jake Stinson of Messalonskee, Thomas Cox of Waterville, Kyle Reichert of Portland, David LePauloue of Thornton and Devon Grant of Westbrook.
