RUMFORD — The Rumford Elks Lodge will host a fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 to help raise money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Elks Lodge member Pam Poulin said she was asked by Ann White, the exalted ruler for the Rumford Elks Lodge, to organize a fundraiser.

“We decided with all the advertising and people involved” to go ahead with the event, Poulin said late Thursday night, even though a major snowstorm is predicted for Friday.

“Every year, we do different fundraisers,” she said. “Our exalted ruler decided to choose the Maine Children’s Cancer Program this year and asked if I could throw something together. I’ll be in charge of serving the food and selling tickets at the door. I just hope that the snowstorm doesn’t stop people from showing up.”

The fundraiser will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with an $8 cover charge. The event will be open to the public. Poulin will be cooking a lasagna dinner and music will be performed by resident Paul Lowell.

“Paul doesn’t play that much anymore, but he’s doing it as a favor for me,” Poulin said. “He plays the blues, and for the fundraiser, he’ll be doing a guitar jam session.”

Several local businesses have donated different prizes to the Elks Lodge for the silent auction, Poulin said, including a gift certificate to the Saddleback Inn in Rangeley for a night’s stay.

“The local merchants have been very good to us this year,” Poulin said. “We have a cord of wood worth about $185. I know there’s a Carlisle’s gift certificate for $50 in there, too.”

In addition to the silent auction, there will be a 50/50 raffle, where the proceeds will also go to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
