CANTON — The Fire Department will host an open house and public informational meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Fire Department on a request to purchase a used firetruck.
According to a press release, the “Fire Department has heard the citizens of Canton with their concerns over the purchase of a new truck, and the impact that it would have on” taxes. Fire Department officials indicate, by purchasing a used truck with funds held in the firetruck reserve account, there would be no need to raise taxes. In addition, the purchase of used equipment would give the town time to establish a reserve account for future purchase.
Fire officials, according to the release, “encourage anyone to come in and ask questions on why the department feels it needs a truck.”
Fire officials will be at the station Wednesday evening to answer questions and provide tours of the station and show its equipment.
On Thursday, Feb. 14, at the regular selectmen’s meeting, Fire Department officials will ask selectmen to authorize the purchase of a used firetruck. That meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office.
