LISBON — A 20-year-old Lewiston man was found lying beside a snowmobile trail about two hours after his machine broke down near Beaver Park late Monday night.

Jeffrey Keene of 53 Stevens Street was having difficulty breathing and was carried by snowmobile to an ambulance, treated and released, police said Tuesday.

Lisbon police were advised by Maine State Police at 10:36 p.m. Monday of a 911 call reporting a snowmobiler broken down on an unfamiliar trail near Beaver Park. The snowmobiler was not dressed for the cold and was having an asthma attack, state police said.

The Maine Warden Service sent two wardens.

Meanwhile, Lisbon police officer Richard St. Amant and Keene’s girlfriend went to the area and contacted Keene on his cellphone. Based upon his description of the route he took from Beaver Park, it was believed Keene was between Pinewoods and Wegg roads.

After a second police officer arrived, St. Amant used his snowmobile and found Keene’s about a half mile from the Wegg Road at about 11:17 p.m.  He followed footprints and found Keene a quarter of a mile away lying on the side of the trail and having difficulty breathing.

Keene was transported on St. Amant’s snowmobile to where Lisbon officer Ryan McGee was waiting at the end of an access road off Pinewoods Road. Officer McGee took Keene in his cruiser to a waiting ambulance where he was evaluated and released.
