LEWISTON — A federal judge sentenced a Westbrook man Tuesday to 15 years in prison for robbing a Lewiston bank, three credit unions and a gas station.
Paul Sans, 30, was in U.S. District Court in Portland where Judge George Z. Singal imposed the prison sentence to be followed by three years of supervised release for bank robbery and interference with commerce by robbery. Sans also was ordered to pay more than $19,000 in restitution.
According to court records, in January and February last year Sans robbed the Auburn Savings Bank in Lewiston as well as the Cumberland Farms on Pine Street in Portland, the University Credit Union and the TruChoice Credit Union, both in Portland, and the Evergreen Credit Union in Windham.
Sans and co-defendant Maria Mattson were arrested Feb. 15, 2012, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II. Mattson was sentenced in December.
The charges resulted from a joint investigation, including Lewiston, Portland and Windham police departments and the Southern Maine Gang Task Force, comprised of investigators from the FBI, the Portland Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
