Meet the author at BCC Feb. 14
BRIDGTON — Bridgton Community Center will host a “meet the author” event at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14. Walter W. Bannon, author of “The White Pocketbook,” will discuss this tale of World War II in Belgium.
The book is “a true WWII survivor story. Andree Laure Florin, born in 1926, was only 14 when Nazi troops invaded her Belgian village. After 70 years, through an unexpected chain of events, her amazing story of survival and transformation to American culture is revealed.”
Weary Club to meet Feb. 16
NORWAY — The Weary Club will hold its coffee hour from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Weary Club, 385 Main St. All visitors are welcome.
World’s Fair meeting Feb. 17
WATERFORD — The February meeting for the Waterford World’s Fair has been moved to Sunday, Feb. 17, at the town office starting at 2 p.m.
The next public supper will be Feb. 23 at the North Waterford Congregational Church, across from Melby’s Market on Route 35. The menu will be turkey and all the fixings, potato, stuffing, vegetables, bread, drink and a slice of homemade pie. The fee is $8 for adults and children $4. Serving begins at 5 p.m.
Meals on Wheels cookbook sale
LEWISTON – SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels is launching a fundraiser selling Meals on Wheels “Made With Love” family cookbooks for $25 each, plus shipping and handling for mail orders.
They have featured celebrities like Joan Rivers, Barbara Bush and Joan Lunden, and celebrity chefs such as Mario Batali, Paula Deen and Martha Stewart sharing personal stories and their favorite recipes.
Cookbooks are available at SeniorsPlus office, 8 Falcon Road, Lewiston, or by phone 207-795-4010 or 1-800-427-1241. Checks and credit cards are accepted. All proceeds go to SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels.
SeniorsPlus is the Area Agency on Aging for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. They provide meals on wheels to about 250 older adult clients daily who are homebound and unable to cook for themselves. Because of funding cuts, there is a wait list of greater than 120 older adults in the tri-county area.

Social Economic Impact of Robots with William Lovell, 5 to 7 p.m. for four weeks. Tuition is $30.
Fly Tying with Steve Kilfoyle, 6 to 8 p.m. for 10 weeks. Tuition is $60.
Eat Well volunteers
OXFORD — Do you love to cook and talk about food? Do you enjoy volunteering and making a difference in your community? The University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Oxford County is looking for applicants to become Eat Well Volunteers. Participants will receive 30-hours of research-based training on areas such as recipe demonstration, basic nutrition, cooking techniques, food safety and working with diverse audiences. In exchange, volunteers will take their skills to local food pantries providing on-site demonstrations and education.
Training will take place on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from April 2 through June 4 at the Oxford County Extension office in South Paris. Course fee is $110; scholarships are available.
