Mt. Abram 55, Traip 44

SALEM — Mt. Abram used balanced scoring and received a 15-point effort by Mikayla Luce as the Roadrunners zipped by Traip, 55-44, in a Class C girls’ basketball preliminary basketball game Tuesday. The No. 7 Roadrunners (10-9) will go on to face No. 2 Madison in a 4 p.m. playoff game at the Augusta Civic Center on Tuesday.

Mt. Abram’s Tori Beane added 14 points while teammates Annie Dexter and Miranda Smith each dropped in 11 and 12 points, respectively. The Roadrunners held Traip to single-digit scoring in the first half, building 24-16 lead at halftime.

For Traip, Ali Barrett threw in the game-high 18 points and Kaylie Andrews added 14.

Leavitt 6, York 5

DOVER, N.H. — Jacob Gladu’s power-play goal with 3:28 remaining in regulation lifted Leavitt to a 6-5 Class B hockey win over York on Tuesday night.

Tyler Hutchinson assisted the game-winning goal to go with his earlier hat trick for the Hornets (4-10-1). Blayne Arsenault added a goal and two assists.

Leavitt led 3-0 after one period before the Wildcats (7-10) answered with three. Adam Poulin’s goal restored the Leavitt lead.

Zach Franklin had two goals and an assist to lead York. Devin McMahan and Kevin Knight played strong defense for Leavitt in front of goalie Nick Allen, who made 31 saves.

BOSTON — Corey Conner won her second championship of the meet and Allison Fereshetian of Turner had two top-6 finishes to lead the University of Maine women’s track and field team on the final day of the America East Indoor Championship at Reggie Lewis Center on Tuesday. The Black Bears placed sixth with 64.50 points.

Conner won the 3,000 meters with an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:26.30 which is a top-3 school mark for Conner who is already the school-record holder in the event.

Fereshetian took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.85, a top-3 school mark and was on the sixth place 4X400 relay tea.

In the men’s event, Justin Gagne won the title in the shot put and James Reed had three top-4 finishes to lead the University of Maine men’s track and field team on the final day of the America East Indoor Championships. The Black Bears placed fourth withea 126 points.Reed also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05 and was a member of the runner-up 4X400 relay team along with Joseph Viola, Frank DelDuca of Bethel and Jake Leithiser that notched a time of 3:18.52, which qualifies for the IC4A Championships and is a top-4 school mark.

Women’s basketball

Bates 105, UMPI 56

LEWISTON — The Bates women’s basketball team finished the regular season on a resounding note, posting season highs in points (105), field goal percentage (.620), assists (34) and rebounding margin (+27) in a 105-56 non-conference victory over UMaine-Presque Isle on Tuesday evening.

In her final game, senior Allie Beaulieu tied her career high with 26 points and set another career high with eight assists. Beaulieu made 11-of-15 shots from the floor, including 4-of-7 behind the arc. All three senior tri-captains scored in double figures, with Taryn O’Connell scoring 13 points and Brianna Hawkins adding 11.

All nine active Bates players had at least three rebounds, led by six apiece by Beaulieu, O’Connell and sophomore Allaina Murphy of Poland, as Bates outrebounded UMPI by a 44-17 margin.
