LEWISTON — Kyle Holtet scored back-to-back goals in the second period as St. Dom’s brushed off Thornton Academy with a 4-0 victory in a hockey game Wednesday.
After a scoreless first period, the Saints (10-4-1) rattled oon three goals, with Holtet leading the charge with an unassisted, shorthanded goal. Will Desmarais got the third goal in the second period on a Holtet and Bryan Bonenfant assist.
In the third period, Brad Berube scored to top off the Saints’ victory.
Cony 7, EL 2
AUBURN — Cony exploded for six goals in the second period and cruised to a 7-2 victory over Edward Little in boys’ hockey action Wednesday.
Dallas Clark led the onslaught with two of his three goals in the second period, including a short-handed marker that made it 2-0. Anothony Brunelle, Spencer Buck, Zach Gagne and Dakota Benson also found the back of the net in the second.
Matt Grenier and Brendon Croteau scored for the Red Eddies (4-10-2). Tommy Small made nine saves for the Rams (9-3-3).
Lewiston 11, Gray-NG/Poland 0
LEWISTON — Tanner Hubbard, Cam Marquis and Kyle Lemelin each scored twice as Lewiston dominated Gray-New Gloucester/Poland, 11-0, in boys’ hockey action Wednesday night.
Lewiston scored four times in the first period, including three goals in a 53-second span, to take command. The Blue Devils (12-3-1) held a 61-3 shot advantage. Evan Bourassa and Brian Wigant combined on the shutout in net.

Old Orchard Beach 63, Mt. Abram 41
OLD ORCHARD BEACHE — Mt. Abram’s season came to an end Wednesday night in a Western Class C boys’ basketball preliminary match-up.
The Sea Gulls of Old Orchard Beach were led by Qunicy Grace who had 10 of his game-high 19 points in the second half. Teammate Joey Gildard had 15 points.
The Mt. Abram Road Runners, who were down 29-12 at halftime, were paced by Ian James who dropped in 17 points. Amos Withee’s nine points came from three 3-pointers.
Women’s basketball
Hartford 82, Maine 56
W. HARTFORD, Conn. — Ashleigh Roberts tallied 23 points to go along with four steals and three assists but it wouldn’t be enough as the University of Maine women’s basketball team (2-22, 1-10 America East) dropped an 82-56 decision at Hartford (17-8, 8-4 AE) on Wednesday evening.
Liz Wood added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Black Bears who shot 38.9% from the field.
Hartford shot 14-for-30 (46.7 percent) from three-point range en route to the victory. The Hawks were led by Amber Bepko’s 28 points including five three-point shots.
Hartford started the game on a 12-2 run as it went 3-for-6 from three-point range in the opening four-minutes. Courtney Anderson of Greene put an end to the Hawks’ opening run as she scooped up a loose ball on the perimeter and knocked down a three
Men’s basketball
Maine 66, Hartford 62
ORONO, Maine – Justin Edwards tipped-in a miss with 0.7 seconds left to propel the University of Maine men’s basketball team to a 66-64 win over Hartford on Wednesday night at the Alfond Arena. Maine improves to 10-15 overall and 5-7 in America East play while Hartford falls to 14-11 and 7-5 in league play.
With the game knotted at 64, Edwards took a jump shot that missed andMike Allison and Alasdair Fraser both tried to tip it the ball in but missed. Edwards was to the right of the basket and tipped the ball in with under a second remaining to give the Black Bears the win.
